Abstract 24 Influences
The shape of my piece reflects the copper breastplates created by the natives of the Northwest Coast and the color pallet features the reds and blues of their two and three dimensional works. This aboriginal art form uses "swelling and diminishing formlines to delineate design units. The formlines merge and divide to make a continuous flowing grid over the decorated area establishing the principal forms of the design."* My formline in this piece serves the function of strict delineation while freeing the viewer from the constraint of referential form.
